Russian State Library for Youth launched international project «Library planet»

Idea of the project belongs to Dmitry Bogdanov, Head of Internet development Department of the library.

Irina Mikhniva, Director of Russian State Library for Youth and Vice President of Russian Library Association, told: «After he saw a program about wonderful places of the planet on scientific channel, he thought, why not libraries can be the object of film-almanac as there are a lot of unordinary and interesting libraries in the world. When he expressed his thought, I liked it very much. And now we launch project «Library planet»».

The aim of the project is to show both to library society, readers and users, successful experience, modern libraries of the world, their work with citizens, what possibilities and resources they can give for education, work, communications, self development and creative self expression. Libraries shall to be associated with bering and dusty area. And project «Library planet» is aimed to amend such old vision and inspire for new ideas that could lead to changes of libraries for the better and to attract young readers, volunteers and creative people to libraries.

On October 21 in Moscow winners of the 12th season of «Yasnaya Polyana» literature award were rewarded

Awarding ceremony of the laureates of «Yasnaya Polyana» literature award took place on October 21 in the Beethoven Hall of Russian State Academic Bolshoi Theater.

Boris Ekimov, writer, was the laureate in nomination «Modern classic». 75-year old writer received testimonial in the amount of 900 000 RUR for story «Pinochet». Arsen Titov was the winner in nomination «21 century» with trilogy about the First World War «Shadow of Bekhistung». 66-year old writer received testimonial in the amount of 750 000 RUR.

Finalists of the nominations who did not receive the first prize will divide the prize fund of the short list. Evgeny Chizhov, Sergey Shargunov and Dmitry Novikov will receive 50 000 RUR each.

Roman Semncin, 42-year ole writer, received testimonial in the amount of 300 000 RUR for victory in nominations «Childhood. Boyhood. Youth» for story «What do you want».

We would like to bring to your attention pictures from one of the most unique libraries of the world. This edition is in New Haven, Connecticut, USA. It belongs to the world-wide famous Yale University, where it is still now.

Name of this unique place is Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library. Surname Beinecke is added to the title of the institutions as the building was constructed for her money only. In total the library can house approximately 780 000 volumes.

But as for today a little bit more than 500 000 books and even more manuscripts are stored here. Construction of the new library began in 1960. After the building was commissioned new levels are still being constructed, and two of then are wholly automized.

A library wholly consisting of digital book will appear in Moscow. Maxim Fetisov, Director of Moscow city library center, told about development of this experiment.

According to him, Moscow can borrow experience of USA partly, where in 2013 the first public library without books in the world was opened. As explained by Mr Fetisov, in 2015 that will be the Year of literature in Moscow, QR codes for downloading books could appear in streets and parks. According to him, today more and more Muscovites turn to e-books: «Some readers do not take paper books in hands at all and use gadgets only. We wish to give them possibility to use customary form of reading in library. We even discuss possibility of creation of absolutely digital library. It could be created on the base of one of the existing Moscow reading halls».

Mr Putin signed the order according to which Russian Book Chamber being the part of ITAR-TASS Agency will deal with assigning unique numbers to editions.

With the order of the President of Russia ITAR-TASS Information agency and Russian Book Chamber being the part of its structure will have obligations concerning international standard numeration of editions.

The corresponding Order of the President №631 was declared on the official portal of legal information and came into force from the date of signature - September 16, 2014.

Before in the book industry there were disputes about the fact that Book Chamber could fail with functions of assigning ISBN after its departmental affiliation was  amended. Elena Nogina, Head of Russian Book Chamber doesn’t agree with these doubts: «We were very surprised when such discussions and experts’ evaluations appeared. I’m sure that it is a wrong point of view as Russian Book Chamber being ISBN National Agency for 20 years already, has a wealth of experience and connections with publishers and International ISBN Agency».

From 130 books of the long list the jury selected 8 best works for struggle against illiteracy in different spheres of knowledge.

Claimants for victory of literature award «Illuminator» of the present year were announced in Moscow.

In the short list there are eight popular scientific books from different areas of knowledge.

«Dandy. Fashion, literature, lifestyle» by Olga Weinstein, research of Pavel Polyan «Scrolls of ash. Jewish Sonderkommandos in Auschwitz-Birkenau and its story writers», «Vikings» of Adelaida Svanidze and «Everyday life of blockaded Leningrad» studied by Sergey Yarovoy are the leaders in nomination «Humanitarian sciences»

1 May Library №171 at Leninsky avanue, the oldest library, will be opened after reconstruction in October. There within the limits of modernization workers tried to save unique painted ceilings and interior decoration. It is supposed that there will be large co-working center for students in the library.

Moreover reconstruction of Children library №47 at Argunovskaya street is at the finish stage. There will be big center for children and special program for handicapped children.

Library №30 in Maryino district will be a modern center where it is planned to organize interesting lectures - to invite specialists fro humanitarian universities. Also multifunctional library will be in Zelenograd too.

Belarus State Technological University jointed to movement Little Free Library. On September 20 at 2pm in Minsk there was official opening ceremony of the first open air mini library in Belarus as a part of city subject game «Read City».

Such libraries look like small houses made specially for free book sharing. From year to year the number of small libraries grows: in 2011 there were 100 registered ones, and as for January 15, 2014 there are 15 000 of them in more than 60 countries.

Each house has its own registration number. Minsk house was mounted at the alley in front of the main building of Belarus State Technological University (Nezavismosty avenue 65).

Opening ceremony of the mini library is dedicated to the Day of Library in Belarus and will be the part of city game «Read City». Scientific library of Belarus State Technological University is on of the organizers.

Polytechnic Library prepared exhibitions and installations for its 150th anniversary. They will be located in six different libraries of Moscow.

Project «Physics and lyricists» was opened on September 18 and is aimed at acquaintance of readers with Russian Nobel laureates. Press service of the museum reported: «Installations tall as a man will be located in reading halls and will tell about what famous scientists read, what hobbies did they have and so on. Books from the funds of Polytechnic Library will take important place there». As envisioned by the organizers a reader could look through and read lifetime editions of scientists, monographs, works or favorite books of Nobel laureates.

Dante Alighieri library, Dostoyevsky library, Anna Akhmatova library and some others will be the places for the project. Here the readers could know who was fond of hunting or cars, making furniture or reading about medieval knights.

Lev Landau, Peter Kapitza, Nikolay Semenov, Nikolay Basov, Vitaly Ginzburg and Andrey Sakharov are the heroes of the project.

The installations will be in the libraries till November 25, then they will be moved to Central House of Artists to be shown at Book Fair of intellectual literature Non/Fiction.

Agency Moskva informs that press service of Moscow City Library Center reports that five modernized libraries will be opened in Moscow till the end of 2014.

Aslo Fasil Iskander library in Kuntsevo district at Kastanayevskaya street will be opened. There will be the writer’s cabinet: books, archive documents, manuscripts and interior items from different collections of the writer and his relatives.
