Astrophysics of galaxies
The materials of the exhibition cover a wide range of issues related to the study of galaxies and intergalactic space. The publications presented at the exhibition introduce the composition, structure and development of stellar systems, the evolution of the interstellar medium, galaxies and galaxy clusters. The publications consider the physical, chemical and dynamic processes occurring in the interstellar medium, present the results of studies of gas movements in interstellar space and in stellar atmospheres, give a brief overview of modern ideas about the interplanetary dust cloud, describe the features of galaxies, as well as the evolution of views on their origin.
During the preparation of the exhibition, publications from the fund of the Russian National Public Library for Science and Technology were used: monographs, collections of scientific papers, textbooks and manuals, conference materials, articles from specialized journals, abstracts of dissertations, preprints, publications from the electronic library systems "Lan", "ZNANIUM.COM ", IPR SMART digital educational resource, database of Russian publications of the company East View Information Services, as well as publications from the Springer publishing house's full-text database.
The materials of the exhibition may be of interest to researchers – astronomers and physicists interested in astrophysics and dynamics of stellar systems, graduate students, senior physics students, teachers.

The structure of accretion disks around supermassive black holes in active galactic nuclei is studied. The theory of transient growth of perturbations in Keplerian disks is considered. Some aspects of the development of magneto-rotational instability in disks are discussed. The visco-convective instability in thin laminar Keplerian disks, which can initiate the development of turbulence, is considered. The book is intended for senior students, graduate students and specialists in the field of high-energy astrophysics.

The book is written at a high scientific level and at the same time in a fairly simple language. It will be useful for both astronomers and students, as well as readers who are seriously interested in astronomy, especially physicists dealing with problems of astrophysics and cosmology.

Abstract: The z-coordinate structure of the gas was studied in the first quadrant of galactic longitudes for three outer spiral arms according to the HI survey on RATAN-600. The layer parameters (thickness and z-coordinate of the center of gravity) were determined separately for the "wide" and "narrow" components of the layer. The parameters of "folding" are obtained – along and across the sleeves.

Abstract: This paper presents relative statistical studies of the three-dimensional spatial distribution of ~ 7 thousand quasars of the modern catalog. The result is obtained, which shows that if we remain in the positions of the standard Friedman cosmological model of the universe, then quasars with absorptions are the centers of large-scale (1000 megaparsecs or more) inhomogeneities in the spatial distribution of quasars. Inhomogeneities look like a shortage of quasars around quasars with removals. The density of quasars around these centers is reduced to 3 times relative to their density around quasars without absorption.

Abstract: It is shown that the absorbers observed in the absorption spectra of quasars can be used to study the evolution of the size of the gas component of galaxies and gas clouds at large z intervals. The evolution of the linear dimensions L of these objects in the range z from ~0 to 3.6 was estimated. A total of 265 quasars in the range z from 0.288 to 3.803 and 809 absorbers associated with them in the range z from ~0 to 3.5575 were used. The estimate L = L 0(1 + z) 1.73±0.07 was obtained.

Abstract: The mysterious glow of the Galaxy's disk in X-rays, discovered more than 25 years ago, has finally found its explanation. A group of astrophysicists from the Institute of Space Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IKI RAS), led by Mikhail Revnivtsev, experimentally showed that the X–ray radiation of the disk of our Galaxy consists of the emissions of millions of weak sources - mainly so-called white dwarfs and stars with active corona.

Abstract: A model has been developed according to which the radio emission of compact extragalactic sources (Seyfert galaxies, quasars) occurs in the regions of formation of their wide optical lines RB~1018-1019 cm. The latter are assumed to consist of a large number (Nc~106) of dense clouds (nc~1010 cm-3) flying radially at velocities Uc~108÷109 cm/s. The clouds are immersed in a hot (Tw~107K), sparse (nw~107 cm3) wind, also radially scattering at a speed of Uw~109 cm/s. The relative motion of clouds and wind is considered supersonic. In the regions of shock waves, electrons are accelerated to relativistic energies. These electrons form radial tracks behind clouds, similar to the tails of comets, and create the observed synchrotron radiation in the presence of magnetic fields in the regions under consideration.

Using our data and data published by other authors, we obtained the oadiospectrs of a number of galaxies in the A1185 cluster.

Abstract: The book discusses the physical processes that determine the dynamics and spatial structure of astrophysical disks (stellar and gas disks of galaxies, accretion disks around compact objects, in protostellar and protoplanetary systems). Abstract: This year, the awarding of the Nobel Prize in Physics turned out to be unusual: the Nobel Committee violated two of its long-standing rules at once. The first of them is not to give an award to representatives of one direction in physics for two years in a row. Since the field of physical research has become very wide, and there are quite a lot of researchers working at the Nobel level, this allows us to give an award to scientists from different branches of physics. But in 2020, as in the previous year, the prize was awarded for space exploration. Moreover, the prize was given for the discovery of black holes, some properties of which are still debatable - and this is the second deviation from the rules, since it is customary to award an award for reliably established discoveries. What made the conservative Nobel Committee do this? In my opinion, two factors contributed to this. First, in 2019, the first ever image of a black hole in the galaxy M 87 was obtained. Such a huge achievement of modern astronomy, which has become a direct proof of the existence of these exotic objects, itself deserves the Nobel Prize. Together with the discovery in 2015 of gravitational waves from the merger of black holes, it turned black holes from hypothetical objects into real ones, making it possible to award a prize for their research. But the second possible factor that predetermined the award of the prize "out of turn", namely in 2020, is the desire to have time to award at least one of the remarkable galaxy of physicists of the 1950s and 1960s, who laid the foundations of the theory of black holes. Stephen Hawking (1942-2018) recently passed away and only Roger Penrose, who turned 89 this year, remained alive. It can be said that in his person all this direction of astrophysics received an award. For the sake of this, the Nobel Committee went to award the prize for theoretical, essentially mathematical work, the main provisions of which – the presence of an event horizon and a singularity in a black hole – still remain, strictly speaking, experimentally unproven, although, of course, indirect evidence is available.

Cepheids played a key role in the revolution of our ideas about the universe at the beginning of the twentieth century and became a powerful tool for its research. The lighthouses of the universe, as they are often called, continue to lead the ship of science to new shores of knowledge to this day.

Abstract: It is shown that supernova explosions can accelerate pulsars to a velocity of ≤ 1600 km/s. Neutron stars accelerated by supernova explosions can drift towards the corona of galaxies, replenishing their hidden mass, as well as filling intergalactic space. It is shown that drifting metagalactic neutron stars, skirting the surrounding galaxies in hyperbolic orbits, can contribute to their mutual repulsion in the conditions of the observed homogeneous large-scale distribution of the matter of the Universe. At the same time, neutron stars, whose mass corresponds to the mass of the so-called dark energy, could be generated and accelerated by supernova explosions in proto-galaxies.

Abstract: It is shown that the gravity of matter in the voids will be balanced by the pressure on the corona of galaxies in filaments of metagalactic cosmic rays (CL) with an energy density of ~0.1 eV/cm3, which can be scattered by the magnetic field of the corona of galaxies ~4 mcGs with an energy density of ~ 0.3 eV/cm3, formed by relativistic objects in binary systems. The source of CL can be objects with active nuclei with an energy release per one typical galaxy of ~5×1043 erg/s. Waters with a radius of ~20 Mpc contain ultra diffuse galaxies (UDC) of low surface brightness, having an extended massive dark halo. UDGs form spherical substructures with a radius of ~2 Mpc in the waters. Substructures in the waters can be formed by the pressure of metagalactic CL scattered by the magnetic field of the halo of the UDG with a radius of ~ 100 kpc, comparable to the radius of the corona of the galaxies of the general population.

Abstract: The results of studies of the variability of blazars according to RSDB observations at frequencies of 8 and 43 GHz, as well as monitoring in the range (4.8-37) GHz are presented. Time series analysis of selected bazaars reveals quasi-periodic variations of flows with characteristic times from 1 year to 13 years. The evolution of the structure of blazars indicates that short-periodic variations of flows with scales of (1-4) years are due to the evolution of the jet and can be explained, for example, by the evolution of individual clumps, jet precession, or the development of a shock wave system inside the jet, creating successive rarefactions and compressions. Variations with characteristic times of 4 years or more are probably associated with the global evolution of the source, and in some cases, with the cyclical nature of its activity. A typical scenario of the activity cycle is discussed, based on a comprehensive analysis of the variations of the fluxes, spectra and structure of these blazars.

Abstract: The book presents the results of theoretical research based on a new physical phenomenon predicted by the author – quantum energy losses in matter waves (de Broglie waves). These losses are expressed in the fact that any moving particle becomes a source of weak low-frequency electromagnetic radiation. The radiation flux is directed forward along the trajectory of the particle and is accompanied by a decrease in its momentum. It is shown that this is consistent with observations of small mechanical effects that occur during the movement of Solar system bodies. For a rotating body, the intensity vector of the electric field of radiation has vortex and non-vortex components. The vortex component of the electric field leads to the appearance of an annular current inside the rotating cosmic bodies of the coaxial axis of rotation and the dipole magnetic field caused by it. The electric field generated inside and outside the rotating cosmic body creates large potential differences.

Abstract: We present the work of an international team at the International Space Science Institute (ISSI) in Bern that worked together to review the current observational and theoretical status of the non-virialised X-ray emission components in clusters of galaxies. Abstract: Along with the traditional optical window, many new windows have been opened on galaxies in the last two decades, made possible by new developments in groundbased detectors and by space missions that allow detection of photons that are otherwise absorbed by the Earth's atmosphere. Galaxies can now be observed in the radio, submillimeter, IR, optical, UV, X- and gamma-ray bands, each window allowing us to learn more about galactic components and properties. These developments have also imposed the view that a deeper understanding of even normal galaxies requires a panchromatic approach, making use of all of the data gathered from the different windows to synthesize a comprehensive physical image of these complex astronomical systems. Windows on Galaxies presents a comprehensive view of galaxies through all the available windows, bringing together both theoretical and experimental approaches in the form of a series of reviews reporting the most recent developments complemented by contributed talks and discussions. The sixth workshop of the Advanced School of Astronomy examined galaxies through all available wavelength windows. Over the last twenty years, new wavelength windows have been opened in astronomy which have created many new possibilities for the observation of the properties of galaxies. The outcome of the meeting clearly stated that the approach towards the studying of galaxies should be panchromatic. Each window, from radio to gamma-rays, shows different components, and a synthesis of this knowledge presents astronomers with a comprehensive physical image of these astronomical systems: star formation, evolution of galaxies, molecular contents, gas flows, interstellar matter and properties of galaxies in the several wavelength fields are discussed in this volume.

Abstract: Various observational data on the local interstellar medium – a region with a radius of about 200 km in the vicinity of the Sun - were collected and analyzed: radio, infrared, optical, X-ray and gamma–ray observations of the interstellar medium, as well as information about the Scorpio-Centauri stellar association. The local interstellar medium is a section of a vast region of star formation associated with the Gould Belt. It contains a giant cavern of hot rarefied gas, bordered by cold gas-dust fibers. This cavern and shell are formed by the action of the stellar wind and supernova flares in the Scorpio–Centauri association. Inside it there is an unusually large supernova remnant – the North Polar Hole. The study of the local interstellar medium sheds light on many nodal problems of the physics of the interstellar medium and the evolution of the Galaxy. Knowledge of the parameters of the local interstellar medium is necessary to reduce observations of both extragalactic objects and radiation sources located in the Galaxy, in order to understand the environment in which the Solar System is located. Kirchhoff's law is discussed for cases of complete and partial thermodynamic equilibrium. The problem of the transfer of radio emission in the ionized gas of the interstellar medium is solved. A comparative analysis of known methods for solving the transport equation in a "gray" atmosphere, that is, in the atmosphere of a star with a frequency-independent absorption coefficient, is performed. The question of complete and partial thermodynamic equilibrium in the interstellar medium and stellar atmospheres is considered.

Abstract: The results of numerical simulation of interstellar gas clouds, performed for the first time in the framework of a quasi-gas dynamic (CGD) algorithm, are presented. The decay of a Taylor-Green vortex and a quasi-stationary flow with an initial condition in the form of a random solenoid velocity field with an energy source are considered. Typical parameters of interstellar gas clouds in which stars can form were used. The results obtained show the capabilities of the CGD algorithm for modeling sparse large-scale turbulent clouds, including a supersonic flow zone.

Abstract: A cursory glance at the astrophysical literature of recent years shows how much the specific weight of studies of gas movements in interstellar space and in stellar atmospheres (cosmic gas dynamics and cosmic electrodynamics) has increased. The development of these fields of astrophysics is also facilitated by the great attention currently being paid to cosmogony, a science that, in essence, is based on the study of the movements of gas and dust in cosmic conditions. The problems of cosmic gas dynamics and magnetic hydrodynamics have been discussed to one degree or another at almost all astrophysical conferences and meetings in recent years. However, despite the great importance of space gas dynamics and the abundance of journal literature on these issues, there are still no more or less systematic studies of gas dynamic gas movements in space conditions.

Abstract: In the approximation of single-fluid magnetic hydrodynamics, a closed system of MHD equations of the mean motion scale is obtained, designed to simulate compressible turbulent flows of electrically conductive media in the presence of a magnetic field. In order to visually interpret the individual components of the energy balance of the plasma and the field, various energy equations are obtained that allow tracing possible energy transitions from one form to another, in particular, to understand the mechanisms of pumping the gravitational and kinetic energy of the average motion into magnetic energy. Special attention is paid to the method of obtaining, within the framework of extended irreversible thermodynamics, closing relations for the complete (taking into account the magnetic field) kinetic tensor of turbulent stresses and the so-called magnetic Reynolds tensor, which also allows analyzing the restrictions imposed by the entropy increase condition on the turbulent transport coefficients. A method for modeling the coefficients of turbulent transport, in particular, the coefficient of kinematic turbulent viscosity, is proposed, taking into account the influence of the magnetic field and the reverse effect of heat transfer on the development of turbulence in an electrically conductive medium.

Abstract: It is shown that the pressure of cosmic rays of the observed energy density on the corona of galaxies compensates for the gravitational attraction of typical galaxies, taking into account the hidden mass of their corona. The energy release corresponding to the cosmic ray flux can be provided by type II supernovae during the gravitational collapse of their nuclei into neutron stars. The contribution of the pressure of microwave background radiation on the corona of galaxies during its scattering by hot electrons of coronal gas is estimated. It is shown that these factors will ensure the expansion of a homogeneous closed Riemannian Universe, beyond the cosmological horizon of which there is matter.

Abstract: This book presents recent results on the modelling of space plasmas with Kappa distributions and their interpretation. Hot and dilute space plasmas most often do not reach thermal equilibrium, their dynamics being essentially conditioned by the kinetic effects of plasma particles, i.e., electrons, protons, and heavier ions. Deviations from thermal equilibrium shown by these plasma particles are often described by Kappa distributions. Although well-known, these distributions are still controversial in achieving a statistical characterization and a physical interpretation of non-equilibrium plasmas. The results of the Kappa modelling presented here mark a significant progress with respect to all these aspects and open perspectives to understanding the high-resolution data collected by the new generation of telescopes and spacecraft missions. The book is directed to the large community of plasma astrophysics, including graduate students and specialists from associated disciplines, given the palette of the proposed topics reaching from applications to the solar atmosphere and the solar wind, via linear and quasilinear modelling of multi-species plasmas and waves within, to the fundamental physics of nonequilibrium plasmas.

Abstract: The dynamical components of six isolated barred spiral (SB) galaxies are investigated. No evidence is found supporting the hypothesis of a low amount of dark matter being characteristic of SB galaxies. The presence of companion galaxies is found to correlate with an increased statistical spread in the neutral hydrogen (HI) extent. It is concluded that the selection of galaxies with large HI extent may introduce a bias towards tidally interacting systems.

Abstract: This workshop is an interdisciplinary one among astrophysics, nuclear physics and condensed matter physics. The aim of the workshop is to encourage the communication between different fields and to find universal structure in nonequilibrium dynamics in various fields. Indeed, there are plenty of examples of nonequilibrium dynamics in astronomical environment and collision of nuclear matter. Thus, it is a good occasion to think of application of new methods in nonequilibrium physics to describe phenomena observed in such fields. In this workshop, we will focus the three fields, jet processes in astronomy, heavy nuclear collisions and granular materials, the formation of planetary rings based on granular kinetic theory, physics of fluid turbulence and its application to various fields. Abstract: In the last decade extra-galactic planetary nebulae (PNe) have gained increasing importance. Improved observational capabilities have allowed fainter and fainter PNe to be studied in galaxies well beyond the Milky Way. Planetary nebulae can be detected to at least 30Mpc. They are found in galaxies of all types and also between the galaxies in nearby galaxy clusters. They are valuable as probes, both for providing the velocity of their host stars and also the evolutionary status and relation to the stellar population from which they formed. This book contains the proceedings of a workshop held at ESO headquarters in Garching in 2004, the first meeting devoted entirely to Extra-galactic Planetary Nebulae.
