Space physics
In the publications presented at the exhibition, the most important concepts of astrophysics are presented, attention is paid to modern theoretical ideas about the nature of stars and their systems, physical research methods. Modern problems of astrophysics, discoveries and achievements in the study of the Universe in recent years are reflected. The materials of the exhibition include essays and memoirs about the life and work of some outstanding physicists and their role in science. The materials of the exhibition introduce not only the fundamental aspects of the science of astrophysics, but also relevant questions that have yet to be answered. What is dark matter and dark energy? How do different types of supernovae explode? How do black holes work? Is there still life in the universe, and what can it be?
During the preparation of the exhibition, publications from the fund of the Russian National Public Library for Science and Technology were used: monographs, collections of scientific papers, textbooks and manuals, conference materials, specialized journals, abstracts of dissertations, preprints, publications from the electronic library systems "Lan" and "ZNANIUM.COM ", IPR SMART digital educational resource, as well as publications from full-text databases of publishing houses Springer and Annual Reviews.
The exhibition is addressed to teachers of schools and universities, inquisitive students and high school students, everyone who takes great pleasure in reflecting on eternal problems and the amazing harmony of the universe.
The materials of the exhibition can be found in the lobby of the 2nd floor of the main building from June 8 to August 18, 2022. Abstract: The book is the first systematic course in theoretical astrophysics in Russian. The book discusses the theory of the outer layers of stars and the theory of ionization in stellar atmospheres in connection with the interpretation of stellar spectra. The "electromagnetic theory of matter..." has been created – the theory of the transformation of electromagnetic waves of the Sun into matter using positive energy feedback due to wave diffraction and the formation of ring accumulators in an electromagnetic continuous medium, which is a key direction in modern experimental and theoretical physics. This book continues the theme of the previous books. Abstract: This monograph is a long–awaited addition to the already existing numerous articles and books on electromagnetism; it examines such a phenomenon as cosmic electromagnetism - more precisely, large-scale magnetic fields that are carried in the flow of ionized gases of stars and galaxies in outer space. The author gives his view on the problems described in standard articles and points out some common misconceptions about the nature of the dynamics of these large-scale fields. Parker engages readers in a series of dialogues that are sometimes even funny, but actually lead to the very essence of the problem. The dynamics he is talking about is the pressure of the magnetic field directed against the pressure and inertia of the massive motion of ionized gases. Yu. Parker shows that it is convenient to describe this dynamics not in terms of an electric current, but in terms of a magnetic field. Dialogues about electric and magnetic fields in space take us back to the origins of science and explain why an appeal to classical and magnetic hydrodynamics is necessary even for studying the most distant depths of space.

Abstract: This classic text, aimed at senior undergraduates and beginning graduate students in physics and astronomy, presents a wide range of astrophysical concepts in sufficient depth to give the reader a quantitative understanding of the subject. Emphasizing physical concepts, the book outlines cosmic events but does not portray them in detail: it provides a series of astrophysical sketches. For this fourth edition, nearly every part of the text has been reconsidered and rewritten, new sections have been added to cover recent developments, and others have been extensively revised and brought up to date. The book begins with an outline of the scope of modern astrophysics and enumerates some of the outstanding problems faced in the field today. The basic physics needed to tackle these questions are developed in the next few chapters using specific astronomical processes as examples. The second half of the book enlarges on these topics and shows how we can obtain quantitative insight into the structure and evolution of stars, the dynamics of cosmic gases, the large-scale behavior of the Universe, and the origins of life. A major aim of Astrophysical Concepts, 4E is to help the reader gain physical insight. While mathematics provides an essential basis for any quantitative treatment of astrophysics, the book consistently emphasizes the physical meaning of equations and mathematical terms. With this approach, individual astronomical objects (white dwarfs, supernovae, comets, quasars) are mentioned wherever physical processes relevant to them are discussed, rather than in specifically dedicated sections. To balance this approach, an appendix presents a coherent outline of astronomy for students unfamiliar with astronomical terminology, and a comprehensive index provides the means for selectively concentrating on specific phenomena of interest. The extensive bibliography refers interested readers to additional sources that treat individual topics in greater detail.

Abstract: This volume documents the contributions presented at the Seventh Scientific Meeting of the Spanish Astronomical Society (Sociedad Española de Astronomía, SEA). The event bought together 301 participants who presented 161 contributed talks and 120 posters, the greatest numbers up to now. The fact that most exciting items of the current astronomical research were addressed in the meeting proofs the good health of the SEA, a consolidated organization founded fifteen years ago in Barcelona. Abstract: The meeting was held from 20 to 25 January, 1997 (20-21 at the Helsinki University, and 23-25 January at the Physical-Technical Institute in St. Petersburg). Despite the very short period available for the preparations, the meeting met with success. We covered such areas of science as the nature of gamma-ray bursts, the issue of the global deficit of solar neutrino fluxes, the origin of the Tunguska meteorite, the past and future of the Solar System, natural archives of solar activity, possible thermal gradients in gases in the Earth’s gravitational field, and atmospheric losses caused by bombardment by interplanetary dust. Rather than being an obstacle, the broad scope of the subjects covered has favored a deeper understanding of the cause-and-effect relations between processes, which are of different origin and occur on different scales.

Abstract: This book on reference systems is the first comprehensive review of the problem of celestial and terrestrial reference systems and frames. Over 20 years, the importance of this problem emerged slowly as the accuracy of new observational techniques improved. The topic has already been approached in several symposia such as Stresa (1967), Morioka (1971), Perth (1973), Columbus (1975, 1978 and 1985), Kiev (1977) and San Fernando (1978). Two IAU colloquia held in Turin (1974) and in Warsaw (1980) were exclusively devoted to discuss reference systems. During this time, the problem of terrestrial and celestial reference systems has been discussed also in many astronomical and geodetic symposia, but always among other topics. Thus, a review devoted solely to the definition and practical realization of such systems was needed. It is hoped that this book, containing modern comprehensive reviews of important facets of this problem will contribute not only to a better and wider understanding of the mathematics and the physics that are behind the concepts and the realizations, but also to future development in a field that can only expand with the rapidly increasing accuracy of geodetic and astronomical observations. We are pleased to thank all the authors of the book who have enthusiastically agreed to contribute to the book in their field of competence and have gracefully accepted guidance from the editors in the definition of the subject and of the interfaces with other chapters. Pikelner put forward the idea of a continuous dynamic interstellar medium – the galactic halo – and carried out a series of works that formed the basis of the modern concept of star formation. In the middle of the last century, theoretical astrophysics has changed dramatically: from a science mainly about the transfer of radiation, it has turned into a science permeated with physical concepts of processes in plasma and magnetism. S. B. Pikelner's contribution to this scientific revolution is invaluable.
