Surface engineering: thin films and functional coatings

   

 

The exhibition materials present the results of theoretical and experimental studies of the functional properties of thin films and coatings. The issues of technology for the production of thin films and functional coatings, factors affecting their structure, physico-mechanical and operational characteristics, as well as physico-chemical effects and processes underlying their application are considered. Information about various types of coatings, requirements for them, methods and devices for applying functional thin films to materials are described.

Monographs, abstracts of dissertations, conference materials, textbooks and manuals from the State Scientific Research Library of Russia, as well as publications from the scientific electronic library were used in the preparation of the exhibition "eLIBRARY.RU ", electronic library system "Znanium.com ", electronic library system "Lan", digital educational resource "IPR SMART" for the period 2016-2022.

The materials of the exhibition can be found in the Literature Hall on Ecology and Priority Areas of Science and Technology of the main library building from September 30 to October 31, 2022. Abstract: The article is devoted to the study of the absorption of radiation of the visible region by thin carbon films. Two types of carbon films of different structures were studied: diamond-like and graphite-like. The films were made by laser evaporation of the material, spraying was performed on glass substrates. In the course of the study, data on light transmission in the wavelength range (400-800) nm were obtained for several samples of films of different thicknesses. The study was carried out using a small-sized USB4000 fiber-optic spectrometer. At least three different sites for measurements were selected on each of the samples. The results obtained for films of different thicknesses showed a slight difference from each other (within each of the two types). The imaginary part of the complex refractive index (absorption index) of the films is determined.

Abstract: The issues of the influence of technological compatibility of modified layers and functional coatings with the main material of manufactured machine parts, depending on the energy state of their surfaces, are considered. The results of an analytical and experimental study of the energy state of the material of the surface layer of parts are presented, which made it possible to take as an estimated characteristic of technological compatibility an indicator determined by the ratio of the value of the specific accumulated deformation energy of the formed surface layer with a modified layer or functional coating to the value of its value of the pre-treated surface. The features of wear of modified hardened surfaces of parts of tribosystems depending on the technological compatibility of their materials are revealed. Abstract: The article presents data on the study of X-ray and microstructural characteristics of thin films of alumomagnesium spinel MgAl2O4 deposited on Si substrates by vacuum thermal evaporation. MgAl2O4 films have a polycrystalline rhombic structure. The values of the MgAl2O4 unit cell parameters are calculated. Using scanning electron and atomic force microscopy, it was shown that MgAl2O4 films have a tightly packed, crack-free structure. The physical characteristics and good adhesion of MgAl2O4 thin films to silicon substrates indicate that they can be used in opto- and microelectronics devices.

Abstract: The paper presents the results of a study of a thin-film coating of tantalum obtained by magnetron sputtering on steel substrates with a roughness of Ra = 3.2 microns and Ra = 0.8 microns. It has been experimentally established that the resulting thin-film coating is continuous and homogeneous in composition. According to scanning electron microscopy, it was found that tantalum is in an oxidized state on the surface.

Abstract: The monograph is devoted to the establishment of theoretical and experimental patterns for increasing the wear resistance of metal polymer and metal tribosystems by obtaining a surface layer on tribocontact with the ability of self-regulation and self-management. At the same time, consideration of the problem for metal-polymer tribo-conjugations consists in the development of functional nanomaterials that ensure the formation of antifriction films on the tribocontact surface, allowing the tribological parameters of the friction node to be changed by the formation of secondary structures on the friction surface. Based on the conducted research, the mechanism of formation of secondary surface structures in the process of metal-polymer friction has been established and methods for modifying polymers, fillers and nanoscale additives in them have been developed on this basis. The main task in the field of engineering of metal surfaces of friction units is the synthesis of technology and materials for applying high–strength, wear-resistant coatings.

Abstract: Due to the discovery of the possibility of synthesis of two-dimensional materials, such as graphene, interest in carbon films has increased significantly in recent decades. An important factor in the practical use of carbon films is the scalability of production. Natural carbon structures, such as diamond and graphite, have found wide application in various fields of human activity. The popularity of these materials is due to the uniqueness of the bonds of carbon atoms in states with sp2- (graphite) and sp3-hybridization (diamond). The ability to control the ratio of the fractions of carbon atoms in the state of spn hybridization contributes to the production of materials with controlled properties. Although the existing methods of plasma deposition (PECVD) make it possible to control the growth of film structures, the issue of developing a fast, cheap and environmentally friendly synthesis technique is still relevant. In this work, carbon films formed on silicon substrates by a two-stage sequential process were investigated.

Abstract: The work is devoted to the study of the effect of the sequence of metal layers in two–layer films (Al – 0.5% Ni)/Mo and the composition of SiO2/Si (111) on the phase composition and structural perfection of Al - 0.5%. The samples used in the experiment were two-layer metal films (Al – 0.5% Ni)/Mo and Mo/(Al – 0.5% Ni), which were deposited on substrates of monosilicon orientation (111) and composition SiO2/Si (111). The influence of the arrangement of metal layers on the phase composition, crystallographic orientation of aluminum grains and their distribution over the thickness of Al – 0.5% Ni films is investigated. It is shown that annealing of the Al/Mo/Al system in an oxygen atmosphere significantly affects the density of oxides on the surface of the aluminum film, which is facilitated by the high affinity of aluminum to oxygen and the polymorphism of its compounds with oxygen in a wide temperature range.

Abstract: The aim of this study was the synthesis of films of aluminosilicates of micro- and nanometer thickness by electrochemical method and the systematic study of the influence of their structural and geometric characteristics on the zone energy structure and photocatalytic properties. Thin-film coatings of aluminosilicates were obtained on an aluminum substrate by electrolysis of aqueous solutions of Na2co3 and NaOH of various concentrations at constant voltage in the range from 8 V to 30 V. The surface was studied by atomic force microscopy, the specific surface area was determined by the method of methylene blue adsorption. The band gap width is determined by the diffuse reflection spectra. In the work, film coatings based on high-silicon aluminosilicates were obtained.

The film model is a three–layer dielectric structure: "substrate–film-protective layer". Abstract: The research related to the physico-mechanochemical concepts of the formation of the surface layer of combined vibrational chemical-mechanical coatings is presented. Based on the analysis and research in the field of vibrational chemical-mechanical coatings, a classification has been developed depending on the energy capacity of the system (the nature and intensity of the processes occurring between the substrate and the coating). Vibration equipment used in the practical and real sector of the economy is presented. The advantages of vibrational chemical-mechanical coatings over traditional coating methods are shown. Comparative tests of vibrational chemical-mechanical coatings (VIHMPS) formed on this vibrating equipment and coatings obtained by traditional methods have been carried out, a number of indisputable advantages and quality indicators of vibrational coatings have been shown.

Abstract: The data available in the scientific literature necessary for the development of high-performance methods for obtaining by plasma-electrolytic treatment (PEO) wear-resistant and anticorrosive decorative coatings based on aluminum and titanium alloys, as well as technological modes of their production by the PEO method on these alloys, are presented. Special attention is paid to the influence of the composition of aluminum alloys and the nature of electrolytes, the concentration of components in them on the properties of the formed coatings; the mechanism of the influence of the cathode component of alternating current on the phase composition and properties of the formed coatings; the conditions of the PEO processes mainly by the mechanism of oxidation of the metal base or by the mechanism of electrolysis followed by thermochemical treatment of deposited polyanions or anions in the coating areas located close to plasma micro-discharges, or the simultaneous growth of coatings by these mechanisms; kinetic features of the growth of coatings on based on aluminum and titanium alloys at various stages of the PEO processes; the conditions of the PEO processes, compliance with which allows to obtain wear-resistant coatings with a small thickness of the outer porous layer. The monograph is intended for specialists in the field of high-tech technologies using products made of aluminum and titanium alloys in aggressive conditions, as well as for graduate students and undergraduates studying the processes of plasma-electrolytic processing of alloys.
